A few years ago, I was told that I had to speak in front of hundreds of people. My heart started racing and my palms started sweating. I felt like I was going to die. Public speaking is not my forte. Preparation had a lot to do with how motivated I felt about speaking and how well I would do. I knew that this conference was really important and that I had to speak in front of a lot of diverse people.
After much research, I now found not 5 but 10 ways to reduce anxiety during public speaking.
Confront the anxiety. You are not the only one who goes through public anxiety.
Even though you feel like dying, many will understand.
Do not take it personally. It is not what it seems like.
Lift your head and dress like you are the boss. Confidence is everything.
Direct your anxiety to positive energy.
Research and make sure you are well prepared to do your speaking.
Stand in front of a mirror and practice your speaking. Better yet, practice in front of others to get feedback.
Before you start, view the ending on a positive note.
If at first you do not succeed...prepare again!
