5 Tips on Celebrating the Holidays When You Don't Feel Up To It!

During the holidays, many people are in the rush of buying presents for family members and friends or dressing up to attend the holiday party at their job. Yet, there are many people who just are not looking forward to the holidays. They may have experienced a loss of a family member or received a bad report from a doctor. Listen, it's OK to not be OK. You don't have to go to that holiday party if you are not feeling up to yourself. Here are a few tips on celebrating the holidays even when you are not feeling it.

Netflix and chill. You don't have to keep up with the Joneses to see who has the brighter and biggest holiday decor, or who can cook the best. Maybe this year just sit in your warm pjs, fuzzy slippers, make a large cup of hot cocoa and just watch your favorite shows. It's OK...

Clear out the baggage. Maybe you have clothes in your closet that you have never worn or shoes that just don't fit. Take some time and donate some stuff. You will always feel better when you give to others. It's Ok...

Cook for yourself. You may not have family or friends around during the holidays and it's OK. Go online and research a great fancy recipe and make it for yourself. Or find a great restaurant and order out. It's OK...

Log off of Social Media. Believe me when I say, you will not miss a "thang". Yes, I said it. Log off of your social media platforms and enjoy the time to make new memories. Take a walk. Read a new book. Start a puzzle. Create new traditions.

Connect with others. Maybe you haven't talked to your friend in years or got in touch with that long lost family member. I know it seems weird in our time to say this but it's OK to CALL someone. Get in touch and reminiscence on the good ole days.

And remember there’s no shame in calling or texting a lifeline like the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255) or the Crisis Text Line by texting HOME to 741-741 if you need someone to talk to. #YouMatter
