It is said that it takes 21 days to make a habit stick. Well, I think being happy should be a habit we all should stick to. With all the negativity in the news and on social media platforms. we need more joy in our lives. That includes having the time to take care of ourselves. Here are 5 things that make me happy every day (if I stick to them) :)
Reading: I am a total bookworm. There are Kindle books, Bookhub, Book of the Month, Audio Books and so many other resources where you can get books, but there is nothing like the smell of a hard-cover book. I try to read at least more than one book every month. This month I'm reading Atomic Habits by James Clear. It's about making good habits and breaking bad ones.
Journaling: For me, it's waking up in the morning and as soon as I open my eyes I have a sense of gratitude for making it that day. With a hot cup of coffee in hand, I start to write down all the things I'm grateful for. Sometimes I get brain-dumps and start jotting down ideas or writing songs. It helps remove the chaos in my head.
Music: Besides books I love music. I love almost every type of genre but there's nothing like putting on a good pair of headphones and just listening to piano music like #DappyTKeys. Or if you're in the gym jamming to your favorite group like Maroon 5. Or if you're like me, when I cook I jam to Salsa music, from Daddy Yankee to Marc Anthony. At the end of the day, I shut down with my favorite worship music.
Movies: Since a young age I've always loved to go to the movie theatre. But now with today's technology, it's Netflix, Hulu, or Prime Video. I love to watch movies or a good series online.
Meditation: A happy mind makes a happy heart. At the end of a busy day, it's always good to shut down that busy brain. Just find your quiet place, close your eyes, take deep breaths and reflect. When you end your day on meditation it helps you start fresh with a clear mind the next morning.
