I recently took a psychology class where I learned about the study of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. I was blown away by the order in which every human being's needs are the same to be fulfilled. It doesn't matter what race, age, or religion, we all need these five things to find happiness and make us complete.
The first one is basics. Every human being need the basics to survive. A roof over your head. Clothes to wear. And food to eat. It's that simple but unfortunately, many people in our own country go without the basics.
Next we need security. This could be monetary in the form of being able to save money for those hard days. Earning a living by the skills that you have is a great way to be able to save money. Or having someone in our life that can provide that safety net for us.
Then we need belonging. Whether it's on a team or group, we all want to belong to something greater than ourselves. When we don't have this we turn to isolation and that can be dangerous.
Next we need esteem. We all try to be the best at what we do and we like to be recognized for it. When this goes all wrong we start feeling low of ourself. When we feel low we won't give our all.
Finally, we need self-actualization. When all of the first four needs are met we are fulfilled internally. This is what makes a human being full of happiness.
